Next Meeting: May 2020 - CANCELED
The May meeting is canceled. If all goes well, perhaps we will meet in June. Watch for announcements and stay safe!

Holding Pattern
We, like the rest of the country, are in a holding pattern because of the Covid-19 virus. Until we receive clearance from the state, we cannot hold meetings because of the limit of 25 persons. With that in mind, we cannot have a definite schedule of events. Please be patient with us.

Golf Tournament
The golf tournament has been postponed until September -- at this point. The golf courses are allowed to be open now in Pennsylvania, but whether the restrictions will allow a tournament yet is unknown. Stay tuned pleased.

Other events:
We still have the car cruise set for July 11 and the Paddlefet for August, but watch for announcements as we are not certain what may have to be changed.
We are uncertain at this time whether we will be able to open museum for Memorial Day. If so, it will be from 10 a .m. to 2 p.m.

Gifts
You can still order gifts from our gift shop if you need a special gift for Mother's Day, Father's Day or graduation. We do have the Bronson Luty book available now for a cost of $20, plus tax and shipping, if not local. It would make a great gift for history buffs particularly.

Museum opening
As with all the rest of our planned activities, the museum opening won't be the first week in May as has been traditional. We hope if all goes well, we can open by Memorial Day.

Exhibits
Once we open, it will be exciting as we will have a new "timeline" on the one wall. It will include our area's history as well as some state, county and world history interspersed. We have been wanting to do this for many years and finally had enough money and time to do it!
Let's hope the virus issue will be resolved, so this can be accomplished.
We also are working on other new exhibits as well!
Please take time to come and tour the museum and invited your friends!
Once we open, hours will be 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

New Meeting Place
We now have a new site for our monthly meetings. Since the Conneaut Lake Park VFD hall has closed, we had to look for a new site. Conneaut Lake Sportsmen's Club has graciously offered its club house to us. It is located off Route 18 on Sportsmen's Road. Please spread the word. Our meetings are the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and are open to the public, free of charge.

Luty Book Now Available
Years ago, Bronson Luty wrote a book, "The Lake as it Was," a informal and memoir of Conneaut Lake, and it quickly became very popular and was out of print. We asked the Luty family to have it reprinted and it is now available.
Cost is $20, plus $1.20 and if mailed, $3 for mailing.
It is a neat book and gives a lot of history of the town and the area as well as many pictures.
It is a soft cover and is 110 pages.
If you are interested, you can contact Jane Smith at 337-6377; Julia Catalano at 724-9841. It also is available at the Tattered Corners Book Shop in Meadville or the Crawford County Historical Society or at our museum when it opens in May.
Proceeds from the book sold by Jane or at the museum benefit our society.

Conneaut Lake Classic Car Cruise-in
Our annual Conneaut Lake Classic Car Cruise-in is set for July 11 in the parking area adjacent to the museum. It starts at 10 a.m. and ends about 3 p.m. Car registration is $5 and may be sent to Chuck Groger at P.O. Box 77, Harmonsburg, Pa., 16422.
Prizes for best of show and people's choice also will be given. Refreshments will be sold and the museum will be open that day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Liberty the Second will be on display and will be started at noon. Come and join the fun and bring a friend or two!

Paddlefest
Our annual Conneaut Lake Paddlefest is set for Saturday, Aug. 1, at Firemen's Beach. Note the day is changed this year to a Saturday.
The Paddlefest includes a three-mile race and a dice run (both for the entry fee of $25. Registration starts at 7 a.m.
Plans are also to have the Liberty the Second at the race and starting the engine after the race is complete.
Registration is available by calling Julia Catalano at 724-9842 or email at:
juliabeth@gmail.com. Prizes will be awarded in various categories.
To support the Paddlefest and offset some expenses, kayaks are being raffled for $5 a ticket for five tickets for $20. Contact Catalano if interested. One kayak will  be awarded on Memorial Day at the museum.

Memorial Day
We will once again be open on Memorial Day from about 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will have hot dogs and baked goods for sale and the museum will be open.
A kayak now being raffled will be awarded that day as well.
Stop down and see us after the parade and ceremony at the Memorial Park.

Volunteers Needed
We need volunteers to serve as docents -- another word for tour guides -- at the museum on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m.
You need not be a great historian to serve. Duties are to welcome guests, give them a brief explanation of the museum (we give you the information) and to sell any gift items they may want.
It's always interesting to hear the guests talk about their memories and a great way to share your memories as well!
Interested: Contact Chuck Groger at 382-8722.

New Gift Items
We recently purchased a number of specialty t-shirts and golf shirts from Stitch Art and are offering them to our guests. They are in various sizes, styles and colors, but cannot be special ordered. Most have just the wording Conneaut Lake (not historical society). Some have special beads that make the t-shirts a little dressier. The golf shirts have Conneaut Lake on the front in the pocket area and are in different colors.
If you are interested, stop at the museum and check them out. They are really neat!
