Midway History

The history of Midway will be the topic of the Aug. 17 historical society meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Conneaut Lake Park Fire Hall. Julia Catalano is in charge of the program.

A & E Channel Films at Museum

The historical society was used for a production for an upcoming  A & E channel special about the spirits at Hotel Conneaut. We worked with the production company to provide a setting for the show as well as to review some of our historical records. As most of you know, the hotel has many visitors, who are described as spirits. They include the famous bride Elizabeth as well as a meat cutter, children, dancers and soldiers.

However our records show no tragic death of anybody at the hotel, so we can only presume the spirits are visitors. Many people have seen them and there is little doubt they are real.

The only problem is they can’t tell us who they are and why they are at the hotel.

The producers recorded happenings at the hotel during their stay, but are not revealing what happened.

The date of the airing will be announced. We’ll be anxious to watch it.

European Extreme 5-K Race

If you know of somebody who likes to do European-style racing, mark your calendar for next July.

Headed by Nancy Coleman, the society held its second annual race in July.

Although the number of runners wasn’t too big, those who participated said they loved the course, which is constructed at Shadyside Campgrounds, owned by Nancy and her husband, Harold.

Runners were enthusiastic and had nothing but praise for the course. One Pittsburgh runner said he will return next year and bring six or seven others with him.

If you know of a racer, please advise him about the race as we hope to build on it into the future.

Arcade Game

We inherited an old game from the arcade at Conneaut :Lake Park, but it has never worked. New member Chuck Groger and Dave Lynch went to work and fixed it so although it doesn’t work quite as good as it did during the “old days,” it worked – for a little while.
