Have you visited our historical society museum lately?

As evidenced by a group of thank you notes we received recently, we have a lot of different exhibits and it’s difficult to pick out a favorite. A group of second graders toured and wrote thank you notes and mentioned which was their favorite exhibit. Many of their notes also noted their appreciation for the tour and their interest in further study, including one who was going on the Internet to look up more about the woolly mammoth bones.

Here are a few examples:

- My favorite thing was all that information about Conneaut Lake Park – from Keely.
- I loved the old orkad (arcade) game. It was osom (awesome). – Corbin
- I thought the boat (The Liberty the Second) was nice. I liked looking at the pichers (pictures). – Grace

When we sometimes wonder if what we are doing is paying off, a quick reminder is from some of the other notes from children.

They included:

Thank you for all the osom (awesome) stuff. It rocks. It was the best time I ever had. Blake

Thank you for having us. It was a very interesting field trip. It was a very fun time. I can’t wait to come back. – Taylor

Thank you for all you have done for me. – Emily

With these wonderful notes of appreciation, we can see how much of impact our museum and exhibits have had on the younger set. We are hopeful that more classes and children will take advantage of the museum and all if its interesting and educational exhibits.

Special tours can be arranged by contacting George Rutherford at 382-7761. We have a number of retired teachers as members and they all enjoy talking with the children and explaining what all the different exhibits are. It’s a wonderful way to acquaint the younger generation with their heritage.
