Next Meeting:
"Horsing Around at Conneaut Lake" is the topic of the July 19 meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Conneaut Lake Park Fire Hall, Station 5.
It will be a panel discussion about the equine history in Conneaut Lake, dating back to the early 1900s when there was a riding stable at Exposition Park to the present day horses of the pony track of Don Weyel and the world champion show horses owned by Mikey Frist Schell and her husband.
Please join us and tell us some of your stories of riding horses at Conneaut Lake.
The program is open to the public, free of charge. The hall is smoke free and handicapped accessible.
Light refreshments will be served.
Upcoming Auction
Mark July 11 at 1 p.m. on your calendar. That is the date for our auction to be held at the museum. As you may remember, we hold an auction every other year as a major fundraiser and this is the year.
John and Claire Dearing are cochairmen this year and have lined up all types of items to be auctioned by Sherman Allen.
If you have some quality items you would like to donate, please call John or Claire at 382-8157. Or you can drop them off at the museum. If the items are too bulky to be moved, you can call and arrangements can be made to have the items picked up.
We are a 501-c organization, meaning all donations are tax-deductible.
Refreshments will be sold and a baked goods sale is planned as well.
Come and join us in this fun event!

Liberty the Second Pen
A pen, made by Tim McKay, from original wood from the Liberty the Second was raffled off. Winner was Alan Moss! Congratulations.
The Wooden Classic Boat Show
We took the Liberty the Second boat to the Wooden Classic Boat Show recently where it was a big hit with all those in attendance. We also took a boat donated by Bill Foust to the society years ago. It is unique because of the way the paddle operates.
The Foust boat was presented a plaque for a special prize!
We also sold many of our gift items and had a nice addition to our treasury!
Among special visitors were Brian Simpson and his family and Bill Houghton. As you may remember, Brian and Bill were the two divers who retrieved the boat from the lake 25 years ago.

Special Donation
The historical society received a special donation this month - a check for $165.50 - from the children at the Conneaut Lake Elementary School. They had collected their pennies and chose our society as the recipient this year.
This was the second time the students have done that. They previously donated pennies to purchase a replica of a woolly mammoth - which is a highlight of our museum along with the bones we have from Allegheny College. The bones, as you may remember, were found in 1958 near Nye's Marina and have determined to be more than 14,000 years old!
Special Gift Items Available
We have three special jackets available for purchase for only $25. They are from the early days of Lakeland Foundation and were sold as fund-raisers fro the Liberty the Second.
Two are navy and one is white with the inscription and embroideried replica of the boat. We have one small and one large in navy and the white is a size large.
They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the museum. They were donated to us to sell by Bill and Dorrry Perfett. We had five, but two have already been sold! They are a nice light-weight jacket.
