No Meetings Until March

With winter here now, the society will not hold any monthly meetings until March when the weather is hopefully a little nicer and roads are clear.

Have a nice winter!

Our monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Sportsman's Club in Conneaut Lake.  It is open to public free of charge. Hall is handicapped accessible and smoke free. Refreshments will follow the program.

Museum Opening

The museum will open for the summer on May 6 at 10 a.m. Hours for the summer are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Special appointments for tours during non-hours may be made by calling Chuck Groger at 814-382-8722.

Docents Needed

We always welcome new docents (fancy name for tour guide) to work at the museum on weekends. If you are willing to work, please contact Chuck Groger at 814-382-8722 and get on the schedule.

We will have special docent training on April 22 at the museum.

The work is easy. You greet visitors, answer any questions and help man the gift shop. You won't be alone as two people are scheduled each day.

It is a fun way to share our history as well as learn a lot of history from visitors!

Exhibit Committee

The exhibit committee is working on exhibits in preparation for the opening. The skee ball from Conneaut Lake Park is to be fixed by then and ready for those who remember playing it a chance to once again play that ever popular game from Conneaut Lake Park.

Also, the Blue Streak car is in the museum up and we hope to have a map above the video, showing "where you are" on the ride -- similar to the light bulbs that showed those who were waiting for the passengers where the car was at the time.

If you haven't been to the museum for a while and enjoyed the Blue Streak, this is a great opportunity to take another "ride" with the video that makes it feel like you are on the ride itself.

Come in and check it out -- all at no cost!

Grant Received

We have received notice from the Crawford Heritage Foundation that we have been awarded a $1,000 grant for scanning equipment.

Plans are underway to undertake this huge endeavor of scanning the 45,000 artifacts in the books and on display. We are scanning city directories and other books so should there be a catastrophe, we would have a backup of the items in the inventory.

The $1,000 will be used for the equipment to do this.

Thanks to Crawford Heritage for the funds and to Bob Hilton and his committee for the research and work on this project!

Volunteers will be asked to help and we have quite a few who had indicated an interest.

Upcoming Events

Mark your calendar for the following special events. If you are interested in helping at any of them, please let us know.

April 22: Docent training.

May 6: Museum opens

June 23: Golf outing

July 8: Car cruise

Aug. 5: Paddlefest

As you can see, we have a busy summer planned and hope you can join us -- as a volunteer or as a visitor!

Ornaments

We have our new Dreamland Ballroom ornaments still available at $12, plus 72 cents tax as well.

They have been well received as people told us about their grandparents and/or parents having met there. One woman said how thrilled her grandmother was with it.

As you know, you don't have to wait until Christmas to display them. They are ornaments but can be displayed at any time.

We think they make a nice memory of days gone by at that beautiful dance hall.
