If you have driven past the Conneaut Lake Area Historical Society museum recently, you may have noticed 4 new murals on the south side of the building. These were created by 3 now-graduated CASH art students- Kylie Longstreth, Emma Wilson and Shay Shuttleworth- with the cooperation of now-retired CASH art teacher, Mike Vorisek. On Saturday, August 28th, a reception was held at the museum to recognize and thank these young women for their hard work and their creations. Kylie and Emma attended, accompanied by family members. Unfortunately, Shay and Mr. Vorisek were unable to attend.
As sophomores, the three students toured the museum to get ideas for their panels. They then did sketches of proposed ideas which were refined and eventually transferred to the large panels. They then painted the panels which were recently mounted on the museum wall. Emma chose to do a panel recognizing Conneaut Lake High School sports and other activities, Kylie created a panel showing notable signs from around the area and Shay painted a scene of water-skiing on the lake. With 3 artists and 4 panels, Emma and Kylie worked together to make a panel honoring the area scouting programs. The panels are a colorful and welcome addition to the exterior of our museum.
After the families and museum members viewed the panels and photos were taken, the attendees enjoyed refreshments and conversation in the museum office. Finally, the families were invited to tour the museum to see where their daughters got their inspiration and to view our new exhibits.
Once again, a big Thank You to Emma, Kylie and Shay for their hard work, dedication and artistic renderings.
We welcome everyone to visit the museum to view the new panels and tour the museum. New exhibits are added each year and older exhibits are reworked to make every visit a different experience. The museum is open Saturdays from 10-2 and Sundays from 2-5 until mid-October. We are also happy to offer tours to small or large groups at other times. Please visit our website at <conneautlakehistory.com> for more information.
New Membership Benefits
For all members, the board has voted to add a benefit for the membership. All members purchasing anything from our gift shop (in the museum or on-line) will receive a 10 percent discount on the merchandise.
It is a way to give back to our volunteers and members. Dues are only $12 a year and if you only buy $120 in gift items over a year, you will save the cost of your dues -- and have beautiful gifts for somebody or for yourself.
The gift shop volunteer will have an updated list of members who are paid up to date (2021).
We have started a new Legacy Society where you can leave money to the society in your will -- via a bequest, outright cash, insurance policy, etc. You can also donate right now to the Legacy Society with the minimum payment of $1,000.
The historical society appreciates the support of everyone -- present and future!
