New Ornament
We have a new Wendell August ornament for sale -- the Dreamland Ballroom.
For all of us who have danced in the ballroom, roller skated, went to church, family picnics and more, the ornament will bring back lots of good memories. It is designed just like the ones we have been selling and will make a great gift for yourself or someone special. If you don't want to use it for an ornament, you can display it on a small table stand.
It is only $12, plus 72 cents tax and will be available at our booth at Pumpkin Fest, Oct. 14, 15 and 16th. We will also have it at the museum or you can purchase through our gift shop (see the gift shop page).
We only have 250 ordered and barring something unforeseen (like selling out very fast), we won't reorder.
So, if you want one, , now's your chance.
We have a few Tumble Bug ones and a few Blue Streak ones -- both of which also will be available (while supply lasts) at Pumpkin Fest.
At the time of this writing, we only had 45 tumble bug ones and about 85 Blue Streak ones left. We don't plan on reordering either of those as we have sold quite a few and don't see a market to order more (you have to order like 100 at a time.)
They will be at the museum until we pack for Pumpkin Fest!
Small Business Sale
Once again, the historical society will have a "Small Business Saturday" sale on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26.
The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for shoppers looking for something unique.
Most of the items we sell are related to Conneaut Lake so you won't find them somewhere else! (Although the Crawford County Convention and Visitors Bureau does sell some of our stuff to give people another outlet. But they don't have a lot of items.)
So come and check us out and get a lot of your shopping done -- in one place and help our society at the same time.
We don't sell a lot of stuff that others sell as we have an unwritten policy that we don't like to compete with our neighbors. Our philosophy is we are one community, and we want to work together.
Prices range from $1 to $150. Something for everyone although to be honest, there isn't a lot for younger children. (We tried to sell t-shirts for kids, but they didn't go too well and we had them for several years.)
However, we can special order any of our clothing for children-- be it t-shirts, hoodies or sweatshirts!
Just order early so you aren't disappointed.
For special orders for children, call Jane Smith, 814-337-6377
Blue Streak Wood Available
We will have a limited number of pieces of wood with laser engraving from the Blue Steak for sale at Pumpkin Fest and at our museum.
We were given the wood from Conneaut Lake Park and sold some that had been specifically sanded and smooth, but many people prefer the raw wood.
So we have about 50 pieces that are the original wood -- paint and nails and all -- but it does have a laser engraved logo and writing.
It is $15 and has a label on back stating it is from the Blue Streak.
As I said, at this point, we are only making 50, so if you are interested, check it out!
It is a really "unique" item.
Ginger Bread Contest
During the Ice House Festival, there will be a gingerbread contest for local businesses.
The historical society is joining the fun and we will make a gingerbread contest for display during the ice House Festival.
Come and check us out and see what our "bakers" make.
It promises to be a great one!
Christmas Party
Every year, the society has a Christmas party for members and guests at the Iroquois Club.
This year it will be Monday, Dec. 19.
Guests have three choices of dinners: traditional stuffed chicken breast; Appleseed seasoned pork tenderloin with an apple fennel slaw; or Mediterranean sole, broiled sole topped with a Mediterranean salsa finished with feta cheese nf fresh basil.
All dinners are served with a house salad, roasted redskin potatoes, vegetable medley, rolls and butter, coffee and tea, and an ice cream sundae for dessert.
The cost for chicken or pork is $23.50 and for fish is $29. This includes tax and gratuity.
Reservations can be made by Dec. 5 with Jean Shanley at 814-337-6377. Please make payment before that date as well. We have to pay the Iroquois Club for the number of meals we order, so if you order and don't come, you still have to pay for the meal.
Please plan on joining us for this night. It is strictly a social event; no raffles and you are going to be asked to volunteer to do something!
It is a fun night. We have a small program and Santa usually stops by!
We hope you and your guest can join us!
Social hour at 5:30 p.m. is followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m.
Christmas Lights to Light Up Our Museum
Christmas is the season when we all enjoy the beautiful lights. This year we are again thinking of adding a few new lights to the museum to add to our holiday. Every year the weekend after Thanksgiving the museum is opened to allow folks to take advantage of the items we sell at the museum. We are looking forward to adding a few more Christmas trees to be placed around the museum, either small ones that can set on the display cases or a few larger ones that can stand alone on the floor. They could have lights on them or not. Our idea is to open the museum to the public on Saturday, November 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Also on Sunday November 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00, this would be in addition to the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 26, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00p.m. The museum will also be opened during the Ice House Festival on Saturday Dec. 3, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
If you would like to help us with this special Christmas project please plan to bring your tree to the museum on Saturday November 12, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00p.m. Or call 814-382-8722 to make other arrangements. If you wish to remove your tree after our Christmas sale we ask that you also do so by appointment, we would like to have all trees removed by December 12, 2022 to allow room for our display committee to work in the spring.
We hope this will add to your holiday for you and your family. Bring all the kids and show them our beautiful museum as you rejoice in the wonderful memories from the past and make some new ones.
Any questions please contact Judy Groger (814) 382-8722
Museum Closing
We will close the museum for the season the weekend of Pumpkin Fest, Oct. 16, but we will be open the Saturday after Thanksgiving for our special Small Business Saturday sale and Dec. 3 for the Ice House Festival.
We also will have special openings on the days of the Christmas tree events. (See above story.)
We also have special appointments for people who can't come to the museum during those hours.
Call Chuck Groger at 814-382-8722.
