Christmas is coming!
I know it's nearly three months away, but we have some great new items for those special people
We have added knitted beanies with Conneaut Lake logo on them.
They come in a variety of colors -- pink, tan, heather (light blue,) navy and ivory.
They fit all sizes and really look very nice.
Cost is $18.
You can order on our web site or at the museum during the Small Business Day sale (Nov. 29) or during the Ice House Festival.
We close the museum for the winter after Pumpkin Fest, Oct.12.
You can buy them at Pumpkin Fest, Oct.10, 11 and 12 as well.
Or, if necessary, you can call and make a special appointments.
We think they are nice for you -- or anyone-- to keep those ears and head warm this winter and fall.
Or, for Christmas gifts!
Gifts for Children
In addition to the beanies, we have some special gifts for children.
We had many requests for something or kids.
So,we have t-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts.
And, we have two sizes of the stuffed Woolly Mammoths -- a baby mammoth and a papa mammoth.
We also have two sizes of Woolly Mammoth puzzles --one size for 3 to 6 year olds and one for those older (as well as adults)
Check our gift shop for prices!
Picnic was a fun night
We had about 35 people at the annual picnic last month.
Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
Msgr.Toland Park is beautiful and the Knights of Columbus are to be commended for all their work.
Thanks to Judy Groger and Jean Shanley for coordinating everything.
New exhibit
We now have a full-size sculpture of the lead horse of the Conneaut Lake Park Carousel.
George Nowack has completed it and donated it to the historical society.
Thanks to all the crew who worked to get it on a wooden stand and upright.
That includes Bernie Hanmore (who repaired the leg), Dale Pysher, Chuck Groger, Skip Holt, Bob Page and Jason White (of Ram Tool), who always comes when we call.
It looks beautiful!
Military Tribute Banner Campaign
The historic town of Conneaut Lake, surrounding townships and the Conneaut Lake Area Historical Society (CLAHS) take great pride in the men and women who are serving or have served our great country in peace and war. Please join us in recognizing and honoring those veterans who have made it possible for us to enjoy our freedom.
This campaign salutes our veterans by displaying a beautiful 24” x 48” banner with a picture of the veteran from Memorial Day to Labor Day in Conneaut Lake. The street banner will hang for two or three years depending on wear and weather and then will be returned to the family or sponsor.
We extend our gratitude to all who support and sponsor this banner campaign.
We love, honor and respect our veterans!

Exhibits
The exhibit committee has made a few changes in the displays this year.

The military display has been changed to add a sculpture, "The Perpetual Soldier,"which is absolutely beautiful.

It was sculpted by Donald Valentine Jr. and is a life-size statue of a soldier in khaki uniform.
The exhibit area was expanded as we moved the clothing rack to make more room.

Pictures of the Century Buildings honored lat year are displayed so everyone can see what they look like -- and consider nominating other 100-year (or older) buildings for consideration in 2025.
Did you know a man who used to live in Conneaut Lake was a National Rifle Shooting Champion in the early 1900s?

Some of the loving cups by J. P. Ittel are displayed along with other memorabilia showcasing his accomplishments.

Mr. Ittel also made a model of a famous church in Normandy where paratroopers landed on D-Day.It also has been donated to use and isdislayed near the church section -- reminding us how important churches area.

Please take a few minutes to stop by the museum and see all the exhibits.

And, check out the new cubby holes which has all our clothing arranged neatly for easy shopping.
Crawford Gives is Coming
The annual Crawford Gives program of the Crawford County Heritage Community Foundation is set for August 12 through Aug. 15.

The program is simple. People may send donations designated for the historical society o the Foundation on those days via check or call with credit card or go to office with cash.

Once the program is over, the foundation tabulates all the donations and then adds a percentage to the total (based on funds donated for this program by sponsors) and then sends us a check for the new total. It usually is about 3 percent and we get it within a few months.

It is an easy way for the society to raise funds and all donations are tax deductible

Please mark your calendars and consider making a one-time donation.

Thank you in advance,
